Washington Can Increase Public Safety while Saving Money

The Washington State Legislature must support HB1125, HB1274, and HB1317, three critical sentencing reform bills that will increase public safety while investing in Washingtonians.

We have a limited amount of time to reach out to lawmakers to urge support. All three bills have passed through multiple committees – but we only have ONE more day for them to be scheduled for a vote on the Washington House floor. =

Sentencing reform is desperately needed – these bills are crucial when it comes to creating a more fair and just Washington:

  • The Judicial Discretion Act (HB 1125) provides judges with the ability to reconsider long sentences.

  • The Juvenile Points Bill (HB 1274) seeks to retroactively remove juvenile points from currently incarcerated individuals.

  • The Emerging Adults Bill (HB 1317) will provide the possibility of early release for some individuals who were given a long sentence for crimes committed under the age of 21

We must act quickly. If these bills do not get scheduled, they will be dead until next year – leading to unnecessary suffering and unfair treatment. Tell the Washington House and Speaker Jinkins to schedule these bills for a vote and to vote YES on the Washington House floor.
