Tell Congress: Less Red Tape, More Green Projects!

We have more opportunities than ever before to expand renewable energy and combat the climate crisis. Rapidly expanding clean energy projects like solar and wind may seem like enough, but there’s a missing link to scaling these investments – a reliable, efficient electric grid.

The problem is getting permission to build these big power line projects takes too long - sometimes as long as 10 years! With the climate crisis already threatening our communities with extreme heat, increasing severe storms, and rising fuel and energy prices, that’s time we can’t afford to lose.

Polluters have also taken advantage of this lengthy process to block new clean energy investments and keep frontline and low-income neighborhoods dependent on fossil fuels. These communities are not only the most impacted by climate change and polluting fossil fuels, but they also have the most to gain in the environmental, health, and economic benefits that the green transition provides.

We need to change the permitting process and speed up the growth of clean energy while making sure communities aren’t left behind.

Tell Congress to remove barriers that currently keep clean energy projects from benefitting the communities that need them most!

    Dear Congress:

We urge you to implement a just permitting reform that brings more renewable energy online, protects communities from pollution, and unleashes climate funds while upholding responsible environmental review processes. Without reform, we risk wasting the historic opportunity to make meaningful climate progress. We must increase transmission capacity and efficiency by cutting the red tape that stops viable, clean energy projects.

    We support permitting reform that:
    • Streamlines the permitting processes for clean energy and transmission lines
    • Includes amendments to the permitting process include considerations from directly impacted communities experiencing environmental concerns
    • Ensures robust, early community engagement and technical assistance in communities being impacted
    • Ensures rural states economically benefit from providing renewable energy to dense population centers
    • Creates workforce opportunities with investments in low-emission, zero-emission, and resilient technologies and infrastructure to help reduce emissions and air pollutants
Without reform, our global competitors will seize the opportunity to be the leader of the clean energy economy and leave the U.S. behind. Clean energy jobs and investments for communities all over the country will go unrealized.

We implore you to implement a just permitting reform that accelerates the production of clean energy projects and includes public input to build climate resiliency in our communities.
