Protect the Climate from Unchecked AI: Stop the SANDBOX Act
Artificial intelligence shouldn’t mean artificial oversight.
Senator Ted Cruz and the Trump Administration are pushing the Strengthening Artificial Intelligence Normalization and Diffusion by Oversight and Experimentation Act — better known as the SANDBOX Act — to give corporations a blank check to sidestep the very laws that protect our air, water, and communities. In the race to expand AI and build massive data centers, this bill would let companies dodge cornerstone protections like the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and NEPA for up to ten years. That’s not innovation — it’s deregulation dressed up as progress.
Across the country, new AI data centers are popping up in both rural towns and city neighborhoods. And wherever they land, the story’s the same: air and noise pollution, sky-high energy and water use, higher electric bills, and rolling blackouts. The SANDBOX Act would silence community voices by cutting out public comment and handing power to a Washington office led by — no surprise — an AI industry insider.
Our health, our environment, and our right to have a say shouldn’t come second to corporate profits. Tell your Senators to oppose the SANDBOX Act and keep real guardrails in place for an AI future that works for people and the planet.
