A Fair Shot at a Second Chance: Pass the Clean Slate Act Now

Finding a job, stable housing, and getting access to education are some of the best ways to ensure success after incarceration. Yet, our government makes it nearly impossible for returning citizens to get them.

The Clean Slate Act would offer a real solution to break these barriers and unlock opportunities for all. By automatically sealing federal records for nonviolent offenses, dismissals, and acquittals, this legislation ensures that those who have earned a second chance actually receive one. It’s a common-sense approach to help people rebuild their lives, contribute to their communities, and move beyond their past.

You have the power to change lives. Stand up for fairness, opportunity, and second chances — add your name in support of the Clean Slate Act.

I am writing to urge you to support the Clean Slate Act bipartisan legislation that will empower individuals, strengthen our communities and drive economic growth by giving those who've earned a second chance a fair opportunity to rebuild
their lives without the stigma of a lifelong record.

Right now, people with past arrest or conviction records face enormous barriers to securing employment, housing, and education even when they've served their time or, in many cases, were never convicted at all. This burden limits their ability to contribute to their communities, support their families, and fully participate in our economy. With over 42,000 legal and regulatory restrictions imposed on these individuals, our current system not only holds them back but also limits our society's
potential for economic prosperity and community safety.

The Clean Slate Act offers a practical, transformative solution. If enacted, it would automatically seal federal records for those with
dismissed charges, acquittals, or exonerations, as well as for certain nonviolent marijuana convictions. It also creates a clear, accessible process for sealing other qualifying records, allowing individuals who have met the requirements to move forward, pursue meaningful employment, and contribute to society without the burden of an outdated record. By
removing unnecessary barriers, this legislation will reduce recidivism, bolster workforce participation, and drive economic mobility, with communities nationwide benefiting from stronger, safer environments.

States like Pennsylvania, Utah, and Michigan have already seen the benefits of passing Clean Slate laws reduced recidivism, more stable families, and thriving communities. It is time for the federal government to build on that momentum and make second chances a reality for more Americans.

I urge you to support The Clean Slate Act and champion its passage. Together, we can unlock human potential, strengthen families, and help build a safer, more prosperous future for us all.
