Dear Senator,
I urge you to VOTE YES on HB2658. This bill recently passed the AZ House with bipartisan support – and I am hoping to see the same support in the AZ Senate.
This bill provides a solution that is smart and long overdue. Arizona is one of the few states that does not allow misdemeanor expungements. This means that even decades-old offenses–many of which were minor or unjustly charged–can continue to block people from jobs, housing, and stability. A past conviction should not be a life sentence to poverty and hardship.
Other states, including Texas, Utah, California, and Michigan, have already passed similar expungement laws, and the
results speak for themselves:
- Stronger local economies – More people able to work and contribute.
- Lower recidivism rates – When people can rebuild their lives, communities are safer.
- More fairness and opportunity – A second chance system that benefits everyone.
We ask that you stand with us and the countless Arizonans impacted by these outdated laws.
Please vote YES on HB2658.
Thank you.
