Don’t Let Climate Deniers Hijack Our Climate Funds!

Natural disasters fueled by climate change are becoming more devastating, and increasingly more expensive. Since July 2023, we've seen a staggering $39.7 billion in damages from climate events. As the numbers soar and our communities struggle to recover, we cannot afford to continue to ignore this crisis by repealing essential climate funding.

Yet, that's exactly what's happening: The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which devotes nearly $370 billion to tackling climate change, faces significant budget cuts in the fiscal 2024 House Appropriations bills.

These aren't minor setbacks; they're orchestrated moves by climate deniers in Congress and signify a dangerous rollback of essential programs aimed at cutting pollution and protection against climate emergencies. We can no longer allow the ignorance of a few to compromise the future of many.

Our planet’s future is non-negotiable! Join us in defending IRA’s critical climate investments.

    Dear Congress,

We write to you at a pivotal time for both our nation and our planet. As the country bakes under record-breaking levels of heat fueled by climate change, and as drought, flood, and fire ravage communities, we cannot afford any cuts to climate funding. The climate crisis and its impacts are becoming more severe, more dangerous, and more costly with each day.

Our communities will continue to ardently oppose any attempts to hamstring regulations or repeal funding to protect the climate and our public health, especially funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Our priorities for the Fiscal Year 2024 spending bills include:

    • We oppose measures that rescind or cap IRA funds.
    • We oppose measures that weaken programs aimed at alleviating pollution in overburdened communities.
    • We oppose measures that cut agencies’ core capacities, including staffing, and restrict their ability to efficiently and effectively distribute funds and execute environmental, public health, and other climate-related programs and regulations.
    • We oppose measures to limit or block agencies’ ability to implement or enforce bedrock environmental laws or regulations.

Thank you for your attention on this urgent matter. Your commitment today not only protects our environment but also propels us toward a thriving green economy for the future.
